Pronouns with affirmative commands (dámelo, hágalo)

Pronouns with Affirmative Commands

When you give an affirmative command (telling someone to do something), object pronouns attach directly to the end of the verb to form a single word.

Take him to the clinic and give him the injection.
Llévalo a la clínica y ponle la inyección.
The dog is sick. Weigh him for the veterinarian, please.
El perro está enfermo. Péselo para el veterinario, por favor.

Notice the accent marks: When you attach a pronoun to a command, you often need to add a written accent mark to maintain the verb's original pronunciation stress.

The cat has a wound. Wash it and treat it.
El gato tiene una herida. Lávela y cúrela.

Using Two Pronouns

You can also attach two pronouns to a single command. The order is always Indirect Object (the person or animal receiving the action) followed by the Direct Object (the thing).

If both pronouns start with l (such as le la or les lo), the first pronoun changes to se.

The dog needs the bandage. Put it on him now, please.
El perro necesita la venda. Póngasela ahora, por favor.
Assistants, the cats need the medicine. Give it to them here.
Asistentes, los gatos necesitan la medicina. Dénsela aquí.
