Prepositional pronouns (mí, ti)

Pronouns after prepositions

When you want to say that something is for, from, or to someone, you use a preposition followed by a pronoun. In Spanish, prepositions like para (for), de (of/from), and a (to) use a special set of pronouns.

For the most part, these are exactly the same as the subject pronouns you already know (like él, ella, and usted). However, the pronouns for "me" and "you" (informal) change:

  • yo becomes (Notice the accent mark!)
  • becomes ti

Here is how they look after the preposition para:

EnglishSpanish
for mepara mí
for you (informal)para ti
for himpara él
for herpara ella
for you (formal)para usted
Is that surprise for me?
¿Esa sorpresa es para mí?
The package on the table is for you.
El paquete en la mesa es para ti.
That gift is for him.
Ese regalo es para él.

You will also use these exact same pronouns after other prepositions, like de (of/from) or a (to).

They are talking about me.
Ellos hablan de mí.
I need a big favor from her.
Necesito un favor grande de ella.
Thanks to you, there is no problem.
Gracias a ti, no hay problema.
