Neither and nor (ni... ni)

Neither and nor: ni... ni

To reject multiple options at once—like when explaining strict dietary restrictions or picky eating—use ni... ni (neither... nor).

Remember that Spanish embraces double negatives! When the things you are rejecting come after the verb, you must also make the sentence negative by placing no in front of the verb.

I like neither seafood nor pork.
No me gustan ni los mariscos ni el cerdo.
My brother eats neither meat nor fish because he is vegetarian.
Mi hermano no come ni carne ni pescado porque es vegetariano.

This pattern works with nouns, adjectives, or any other grammatical element.

She is intolerant and can digest neither gluten nor dairy.
Ella es intolerante y no puede digerir ni el gluten ni los lácteos.
I am gluten intolerant; I eat neither bread nor cookies.
Soy intolerante al gluten; no como ni pan ni galletas.
I am neither vegan nor vegetarian, but I eat a lot of vegetables.
No soy ni vegano ni vegetariano, pero como muchas verduras.
