Giving reasons (porque)

Giving Reasons with "porque"

When you want to explain why something happens or justify a decision, use the word porque (because). Just like in English, it usually connects an action or situation directly to its reason.

I work a lot because I want to earn money.
Trabajo mucho porque quiero ganar dinero.
I do not go out because it rains.
No salgo porque llueve.

Explaining Situations

Porque easily connects two complete thoughts. You state what is happening, add porque, and then follow it with the explanation.

The girl is happy because she wins.
La chica está feliz porque gana.
We do not go to the neighborhood because it is dangerous.
No vamos al barrio porque es peligroso.

Spelling tip: Notice that porque (because) is written as one single word without an accent mark.
