Giving Reasons with "porque"
When you want to explain why something happens or justify a decision, use the word porque (because). Just like in English, it usually connects an action or situation directly to its reason.
| I work a lot because I want to earn money. | Trabajo mucho porque quiero ganar dinero. |
| I do not go out because it rains. | No salgo porque llueve. |
Explaining Situations
Porque easily connects two complete thoughts. You state what is happening, add porque, and then follow it with the explanation.
| The girl is happy because she wins. | La chica está feliz porque gana. |
| We do not go to the neighborhood because it is dangerous. | No vamos al barrio porque es peligroso. |
Spelling tip: Notice that porque (because) is written as one single word without an accent mark.
