When comparing generations, cultures, or mindsets, you often need to highlight how two things are different. To say "while" or "whereas" to contrast two direct facts, use the phrase mientras que.

Because you are declaring established, real facts—not hypotheticals or unknowns—the verb following mientras que stays in the indicative mood.
