Questions & Answers about Даже если ты не активист, ты можешь подписать эту петицию.
Why doesn't this sentence use the subjunctive particle бы with даже если?
Because the condition is treated as a real possibility, not a counterfactual one. Using the indicative means 'Even if it is true that you are not an activist.' If we used the subjunctive (даже если бы ты не был активистом), it would mean 'Even if you weren't an activist,' implying that the person actually is one.
How does даже если differ from хотя in this context?
Хотя means 'although' or 'even though,' presenting a confirmed fact: 'Even though you are not an activist.' Даже если (even if) presents it as a condition that might or might not be true, emphasizing that whether you are an activist or not does not affect your ability to sign the petition.
Why is the perfective verb подписать used after можешь rather than the imperfective подписывать?
The perfective подписать is used because the focus is on successfully completing a single, one-time action (putting your signature on this specific document). If you used the imperfective подписывать, it would imply the ongoing process of signing or a repeated habit, which does not fit this context.
Since the subject is the same in both parts of the sentence, is it mandatory to repeat the pronoun ты?
