Questions & Answers about Нам нужен специалист высокого уровня из этой компании.
Why is высокого уровня in the genitive case here?
This is the genitive of qualitative description. Instead of using a single adjective, Russian often uses a noun phrase in the genitive case to describe an inherent characteristic of someone or something. Here, специалист высокого уровня literally means a specialist of a high level.
Could we just use a compound adjective like высокоуровневый специалист instead?
While the adjective высокоуровневый exists, it is mostly used for technical concepts like a high-level programming language. When describing a person's professional caliber or expertise, using the genitive phrase высокого уровня or высокой квалификации is much more natural.
Why does the sentence start with нам нужен rather than a direct translation of we need?
In Russian, the concept of needing something is expressed backwards compared to English. The person who needs is in the dative case (нам), and the person or thing needed is in the nominative case (специалист). The short adjective нужен agrees in gender and number with специалист.
Why use the preposition из in из этой компании rather than от?
We use из because the specialist works inside that company and we want someone from their ranks. If you used от этой компании, it would imply the specialist is an official representative sent on behalf of the company, rather than just an employee you are seeking out.
