Learn Russian: Разве можно прождать самолёт двое суток? - Is it really possible to wait for a plane for two whole days?

Adding the prefix про- to ждать creates a perfective verb meaning 'to spend a specific amount of time waiting.' It highlights the entirety of the time spent, often implying it felt like a long time, which pairs perfectly with the Accusative time phrase двое суток (two whole days).

Why does the sentence use двое суток instead of два or две?

The word for a 24-hour day, сутки, is a plural-only noun (it has no singular form). In Russian, when you count plural-only nouns with the numbers 2, 3, or 4, you must use collective numerals like двое, трое, or четверо instead of standard numbers.

What case is the time expression двое суток in?

It is in the Accusative case, serving as the Accusative of time to express the exact duration. For inanimate concepts, the Accusative of двое is identical to its Nominative form. The noun суток is in the Genitive plural, which is the required case after the numeral двое.

What nuance does Разве add at the beginning of the sentence?

Разве is a particle used to express strong doubt, surprise, or disbelief. While a simple Можно...? neutrally asks 'Is it possible...?', adding Разве changes the tone to 'Is it really possible...?' or 'Can it be true that...?'
