Questions & Answers about Ты кое на что намекаешь или просто скрываешь правду?
Why is the preposition на right in the middle of кое-что?
When indefinite pronouns starting with the prefix кое- are used with a preposition, the preposition is placed directly between the prefix and the pronoun. This breaks the term into three separate words and drops the hyphen. So, на combined with кое-что becomes кое на что.
Why is the preposition на used with the verb намекаешь in the first place?
The verb намекать (to hint) usually pairs with the preposition на followed by the Accusative case to express what someone is hinting at. While in English we say "hint at", Russian grammar treats it more like "hint onto".
What case is the pronoun что in here?
It is in the Accusative case because it follows the намекать на structure. The word что looks exactly the same in both the Nominative and Accusative cases, which is why it might look like it hasn't changed at all.
What is the difference between using кое на что and на что-то here?
The prefix кое- is used when someone has a specific, definite thing in mind but deliberately chooses not to name it directly (often translated as "a certain something"). If the sentence used на что-то, it would imply the person is just hinting at "something" vague or unknown.
