While продукты literally means "products," it is the standard Russian word for "groceries" or "food." When Russians talk about buying food at the supermarket, they usually refer to buying продукты.

Where is the verb "are" in this sentence?

In the Russian present tense, the verb "to be" (am, is, are) is almost always left out. You simply place the subject (Эти продукты) right next to its description (очень дорогие).

Why does дорогие end in -ие instead of the usual plural adjective ending -ые?
