Why does this sentence use голову (head) instead of the word for hair?
In English, we say we wash our hair, but in Russian, the natural and standard phrase is to wash your head (мыть голову). If you used the word for hair (волосы), it would sound very unnatural to a native speaker.
Why is there no Russian word for "my" before голову?
Russian usually leaves out possessive pronouns when talking about body parts or personal items if it is already obvious who they belong to. Adding a word like свою or мою (my) here would sound oddly repetitive.
