Questions & Answers about Я мою голову каждый день.
Why does this sentence use голову (head) instead of the word for hair?
In English, we say we wash our hair, but in Russian, the natural and standard phrase is to wash your head (мыть голову). If you used the word for hair (волосы), it would sound very unnatural to a native speaker.
Why is there no Russian word for "my" before голову?
Russian usually leaves out possessive pronouns when talking about body parts or personal items if it is already obvious who they belong to. Adding a word like свою or мою (my) here would sound oddly repetitive.
What verb does мою come from?
It comes from the verb мыть (to wash). This verb has an unpredictable stem in the present tense, giving us forms like я мою, ты моешь, and они моют. Note that it happens to be spelled exactly like the feminine word for "my" (мою), but the verb is stressed on the first syllable.
Why is каждый день (every day) in the accusative case here?
Time expressions that describe how often an action repeats are put into the accusative case. Because день is a masculine inanimate noun, its accusative form looks exactly the same as its basic dictionary form.
