Questions & Answers about Трасса, которая проходит мимо парка, очень красивая.
Why use проходит here instead of переходит?
The prefix про- usually means passing by or going through, so проходит мимо means passes by. If we used переходит, it would mean the route crosses the park from one side to the other.
Why is the verb проходит in the imperfective aspect here?
A physical road or route permanently exists in that location. Because it is a continuous, ongoing state rather than a single completed trip, we use the imperfective form проходить rather than the perfective пройти.
Why does парк change to парка after мимо?
The preposition мимо (past or by) always requires the genitive case. Since парк is a masculine noun ending in a consonant, we add -а to make it парка.
Why do we use которая instead of который?
The word которая means which or that. It has to match the gender and number of the noun it refers back to. Since трасса (route) is feminine and singular, we use the feminine singular form которая.
