Questions & Answers about Каждый год мы привозим виноград из деревни.
Why use привозим instead of приносим for 'bring'?
Both translate to 'bring,' but they use different modes of motion. привозим comes from возить, meaning to transport by vehicle. Since they are bringing grapes from a village, they are driving or taking transport. If they were carrying them on foot, they would use приносим (from носить).
Is привозим perfective or imperfective?
It is imperfective. When you add a prefix like при- (arrival) to a multi-directional verb of motion like возить, you get an imperfective verb. We need the imperfective here because Каждый год (Every year) tells us this is a repeated, habitual action.
Why doesn't Каждый год have a preposition like в before it?
To say 'every [time period]' in Russian, you simply use the word каждый and the noun in the accusative case, with no preposition. Since год is a masculine inanimate noun, its accusative form looks exactly like its dictionary form.
Why is the word for grapes (виноград) singular here?
In Russian, виноград is treated as a collective or mass noun. It is always grammatically singular, even when referring to a whole bunch of grapes, similar to how we use words like 'rice' or 'corn' in English.
Why use the preposition из for 'from' instead of с?
The word you use for 'from' depends on the preposition used for 'in' or 'to' a place. Because you go to a village using в (в деревню), you must return from it using из. You would only use с if the destination took the preposition на.
