Questions & Answers about Здесь мало ресурсов для этого проекта.
Why is "resources" translated as ресурсов instead of ресурсы?
Words like мало (few/little), много (many/a lot), and сколько (how many) require the noun that follows them to be in the Genitive plural when dealing with countable things. Since "resources" are countable, we use the Genitive plural ресурсов.
How do we form the Genitive plural for a word like ресурс?
Ресурс is a masculine noun ending in a consonant. For most masculine nouns ending in a hard consonant, you form the Genitive plural by adding -ов. So, ресурс becomes ресурсов.
Why are the words for "this project" (этого проекта) also in the Genitive case?
Because of the preposition для (for). In Russian, для always requires the noun and any adjectives attached to it to be in the Genitive case. Since проект is a masculine singular noun, it becomes проекта, and "this" (этот) becomes этого.
Why isn't there a verb for "are" in the Russian sentence?
In Russian, the present tense of the verb "to be" is almost always omitted. While in English we say "There are few resources", Russian simply expresses "Here few resources" (Здесь мало ресурсов).
