Learn Russian: Мой брат часто её встречает.

In this sentence, "her" is the direct object—the person being met. To show this, we use the Accusative case. The Accusative form of the pronoun она (she) is её (her).

Wait, doesn't её also mean "her" when talking about something she owns?

Yes, it does! The Russian word её does double duty. It acts as the possessive "her" (like in её брат - her brother), but as you see in this lesson, it is also the Accusative case pronoun for "her" when she is the direct object of an action. You can tell which one it is by the context.

Why is the pronoun её placed before the verb встречает instead of after?

In Russian, pronouns that act as direct objects very often come right before the verb, instead of after it like in English. While Мой брат часто встречает её is also grammatically correct, putting её before the verb is very common and sounds natural in everyday speech.

How do we know to use the -ет ending for the verb встречает?

The dictionary form of the verb is встречать (to meet). The subject doing the meeting is Мой брат (My brother), which counts as a "he" (он). For regular verbs ending in -ать, the "he/she/it" form drops the -ть and adds -ет.
