Questions & Answers about Мы всегда завтракаем вместе.
How do we form завтракаем from the dictionary word?
The dictionary form (infinitive) is завтракать (to have breakfast). Because it ends in -ать, it belongs to the first conjugation. To match the pronoun Мы (we), you drop the -ть and add the plural ending -ем to get завтракаем.
Why is 'have breakfast' translated as just one word, завтракаем?
In English, we use the verb 'have' plus the noun 'breakfast'. Russian uses a single action verb for this: завтракать (literally 'to breakfast'). You do not need to add a separate Russian word for 'have' or 'eat' when using this verb.
Does the г in всегда make a 'v' sound like it does in сегодня?
No, here it makes a regular hard 'g' sound, like in 'go'. The 'v' sound for the letter г only happens in specific word endings like -его or -ого, and in the special word сегодня.
Can I change the word order and say Мы завтракаем всегда вместе?
Yes, Russian word order is flexible, so that would be understood. However, Мы всегда завтракаем вместе is the most natural way to say it. Putting adverbs of frequency like всегда (always) right before the verb is the standard pattern.
