Receiving Packages
To say you "receive" something, use the verbs получать (imperfective) or получить (perfective), followed by the Accusative case for the item you are getting, such as a посылка (parcel).
| I usually receive parcels in the morning. | Обычно я получаю посылки утром. |
| Did you already receive the parcel today? | Ты уже получил посылку сегодня? |
The Preposition ОТ (From a Person)
When a package comes from a person or an animate sender, use the preposition от followed by the Genitive case.
| I want to receive the parcel from the courier. | Я хочу получить посылку от курьера. |
| We received a message from the new sender. | Мы получили сообщение от нового отправителя. |
The Preposition ИЗ (From a Place)
When a delivery arrives from a location (like a country, city, or building), use the preposition из (out of, from) followed by the Genitive case.
| The courier brought the parcel from China. | Курьер принёс посылку из Китая. |
| They are waiting for the delivery from the capital. | Они ждут доставку из столицы. |
Picking Up Packages
To "pick up" a package, use the verbs забирать (imperfective) or забрать (perfective). Because you are picking things up from a physical location, you will frequently use the preposition из.
| I don't like picking up parcels from the office. | Я не люблю забирать посылки из офиса. |
| You need to pick up the parcel from the center today. | Тебе нужно забрать посылку из центра сегодня. |
Putting It All Together
You can combine these prepositions in a single sentence to specify exactly who sent your package and where it came from.
| Is this parcel from my brother from China? | Эта посылка от моего брата из Китая? |
| When we receive the parcel from the courier, we open the app. | Когда мы получаем посылку от курьера, мы открываем приложение. |
