Questions & Answers about Mergi repede afară!
Why is the command form Mergi exactly the same as the present tense "you" form?
For many 3rd conjugation verbs (verbs ending in -e), the singular command form looks like the "he/she" present tense form (for example, a crede becomes Crede!). However, a merge is an important exception. Its singular command is Mergi!, which matches the "you" present tense form (tu mergi). Another common verb that does this is a trece (Treci!).
How would I make this a negative command, like "Don't go outside!"?
You would say Nu merge afară!. Remember that for negative singular commands, Romanian uses nu plus the dictionary form (the infinitive) of the verb (a merge), not the affirmative command form. It is a common mistake to try and say Nu mergi!, so watch out for that!
Does the word repede change if I'm talking to more than one person?
