Why is the word for "two" doi here instead of două?
In Romanian, the number 2 has different forms depending on the gender of the noun it counts. You use doi for masculine nouns, like câini (dogs). If you were counting feminine or neuter nouns, you would use două.
What is the singular form of câini?
The singular form is câine (dog). When masculinenouns end in -e, their plural is usually formed by changing that -e to an -i.
Why does the verb take the form fug?
Fug is the "they" form of the verba fugi (to run). Because the subject is doi câini (two dogs), which is a plural "they", we use fug. If it were just one dog, you would use the "he/she/it" form, which is fuge.
Does the word repede change because there are multiple dogs?
No. Here, repede is an adverb meaning "fast" or "quickly" because it describes the action of running. In Romanian, adverbs do not change their spelling to match the plural or gender of the subject.
