Welcome to the Aquarium
Ready to explore marine life without leaving the city? A visit to the local aquarium (acvariul) is a great way to discover the aquatic (acvatic) world.

| We can see a beautiful aquatic world. | Putem să vedem o lume acvatică frumoasă. |
The Big Tanks
Large sea creatures need plenty of space to swim, so you will often find them in a massive tank or basin (bazinul).
Notice how Romanian attaches words like "the" directly to the end of the noun. For masculine and neuter nouns, this definite article usually looks like -ul. You will see this with the shark (rechinul) and the dolphin (delfinul).
| The shark swims fast in the big tank. | Rechinul înoată repede în bazinul mare. |
| The dolphin is very intelligent and friendly. | Delfinul este foarte inteligent și prietenos. |
Turtles and Jellyfish
For feminine nouns, the definite article "the" attached to the end of the word often takes the form of -a. This is why words like turtle and jellyfish become țestoasa and meduza.
| The turtle moves slowly under the water. | Țestoasa se mișcă încet sub apă. |
| That blue jellyfish is a beautiful animal. | Acea meduză albastră este un animal frumos. |
Cold Water Friends
Some animals prefer chillier environments. In the colder tanks, you can find the penguin (pinguinul) and the seal (foca).
| The penguin no longer swims in the cold tank. | Pinguinul nu mai înoată în bazinul rece. |
| The seal is playing with the penguin now. | Foca se joacă cu pinguinul acum. |
Hide and Seek
Finally, some aquatic creatures are experts at camouflage. Keep a close eye on the glass to spot the octopus (caracatița).
| The octopus hides behind the glass. | Caracatița se ascunde în spatele geamului. |
