Getting Your Desk Ready
To stay organized, you will need the right tools on your desk.
In Romanian, the definite article "the" attaches directly to the end of the noun. For many feminine nouns, this takes the form of an -a at the end of the word. You will see this with words like the eraser (radiera) and the ruler (rigla).
| I would like the eraser and the ruler, please. | Aș vrea radiera și rigla, te rog. |
Fastening Pages Together
When grouping documents, you might reach for the stapler (capsatorul) or the paperclip (agrafa).
Notice how masculine and neuter words often get the ending -ul to mean "the", while feminine words like agrafa use the -a ending.
| Do you use this stapler or that paperclip? | Folosești acest capsator sau acea agrafă? |
Printing and Punching
Modern offices rely on machines like the printer (imprimanta) and the hole punch (perforatorul). Of course, a printer is useless without ink (cerneala).
| The new printer has no ink at all. | Imprimanta nouă nu are cerneală deloc. |
| I take the hole punch, and you take the ruler. | Eu iau perforatorul, iar tu iei rigla. |
The Pencil Case
For smaller writing supplies, you will want a pencil case (penarul). Inside, you might store your marker (markerul) or the glue (lipiciul).
| That small pencil case has a marker and an eraser. | Acel penar mic are un marker și o radieră. |
| The boy puts the glue in his pencil case. | Băiatul pune lipiciul în penarul său. |
Taking Notes
Finally, whether you are planning your week or jotting down ideas, you will need the planner (agenda) and a pocket notebook (carnetul).
| The planner and the notebook are on my desk. | Agenda și carnetul sunt pe biroul meu. |
| The colleague writes the schedule in her planner. | Colega scrie programul în agenda ei. |
