Late Summer
Let's complete our calendar! We'll start with the peak of the Romanian summer: iulie (July) and august (August). Just like the first six months, remember that month names are not capitalized in Romanian unless they appear at the beginning of a sentence. To say something happens in a month, use the preposition în.
| We want to go to the mountain in July and in August. |
Autumn Schedules
As the weather cools, we move into autumn. The next two months are septembrie (September) and octombrie (October). Notice the -mbrie ending—you will see this pattern in all the remaining months of the year!
| This project starts in September and ends in October. |
You can easily contrast different times of the year by combining months you already know.
| The child wakes up late in July, but in September he goes to school. |
| Her holiday starts in August and ends in September. |
Closing the Year
Finally, we reach the end of the year with noiembrie (November) and decembrie (December).
| My brother comes home in November and in December. |
We typically use în to say in a certain month, but you can also use other prepositions you know, like pentru (for), to talk about upcoming plans.
| I must buy that gift in November for December. |
| In October and November we drink a lot of tea in the house. |
