Precious Metals
When shopping for a piece of jewelry (bijuteria), you will often want to specify the material. To say something is "made of" a certain metal, use the preposition din or de followed by the unarticulated material, such as gold (aur) or silver (argint).
| I bought a piece of jewelry made of gold. | Am cumpărat o bijuterie din aur. |
| Mom's bracelet is made of silver. | Brățara mamei este din argint. |
You can also describe these fine materials and pieces as precious (prețios).
| Time is more precious than gold. | Timpul este mai prețios decât aurul. |
Gems and Necklaces
Jewelry pieces frequently feature precious stones. To describe an item featuring a diamond (diamantul) or a pearl (perla), simply use the preposition cu (with). For example, a necklace (colierul) might have a small diamond attached.
| The girl received a ring with a small diamond. | Fata a primit un inel cu un diamant mic. |
| She wears the necklace around her neck. | Ea poartă colierul în jurul gâtului. |
| I found a pearl in the jewelry box. | Am găsit o perlă în cutia de bijuterii. |
Accessories and Accents
Beyond standard rings and bracelets, there are many other accessories you might wear (a purta), choose (a alege), or lose (a pierde). These include a light decorative scarf (eșarfa), a brooch (broșa), a pendant (pandantivul), or an earring (cercelul).
| The red silk scarf is on the sofa. | Eșarfa roșie din mătase este pe canapea. |
| She wears a silver brooch on her jacket. | Ea poartă o broșă de argint pe jachetă. |
| He chose an interesting pendant for his wife. | El a ales un pandantiv interesant pentru soția lui. |
| The girl lost an earring on the beach. | Fata a pierdut un cercel pe plajă. |
