Intending to Do Something
To express what you plan or intend to do, Romanian uses the expression a avea de gând să.
This phrase translates to "to intend to" (or literally, "to have in mind to"). It is formed by conjugating the verb a avea (to have), adding the fixed phrase de gând, and following it with a verb in the subjunctive mood.
To express a negative intention ("to intend not to do something"), leave the main phrase affirmative and place the negative word nu directly inside the subjunctive clause, right before the action verb.
Being About to Do Something
When an action is the immediate next step or is on the verge of happening, use the verb a urma (to follow / to come next).
The phrase urmează să translates to "to be about to" or "is going to happen next." Just like with our previous expression, conjugate a urma to match the subject, and follow it with the subjunctive mood.
You can use these two expressions together to describe how an impending event affects your plans.
Goals and Ambitions
When discussing life plans, New Year's resolutions, or personal milestones, you will often use nouns like țelul (the goal) and ambiția (the ambition).
You can define these goals directly using the verb a fi (to be) followed by a subjunctive clause, or you can state your ambition and follow up with what you intend or are about to do.
