What do you like doing?
To say you like doing something, put să + verb after îmi place. The verb agrees with the person who does it.
| I like to go for a walk with the dog. | Îmi place să mă plimb cu câinele. |
| Can you swim? | Știi să înoți? |
| Do you prefer to run or to swim? | Preferi să alergi sau să înoți? |
Se plimba (to go for a walk) is reflexive, like the routine verbs: mă plimb, te plimbi, se plimbă.
Playing and moving
Juca is to play a game or a sport. Its stem changes: joc, joci, joacă.
| The boy plays football. | Băiatul joacă fotbal. |
| verb | I | he/she |
|---|---|---|
| juca (play) | joc | joacă |
| înota (swim) | înot | înoată |
| alerga (run) | alerg | aleargă |
| prefera (prefer) | prefer | preferă |
| fuma (smoke) | fumez | fumează |
| We swim at the pool. | Înotăm la piscină. |
| I go to school by bike. | Merg cu bicicleta la școală. |
Let's — and watching
Hai invites: come on, let's. With să it proposes an activity. Se uita la (look at, watch) is reflexive and always takes la — don't confuse it with uita (to forget).
| Let's play football! | Hai să jucăm fotbal! |
| I am watching television. | Mă uit la televizor. |
Together, and good and bad habits
| We go to the pool together. | Mergem împreună la piscină. |
| I run in the morning. It is a good habit. | Alerg dimineața. Este un obicei bun. |
