Fitness and Gym Routines

Getting Started at the Gym

A safe and effective workout always starts with a proper warm-up (încălzirea). Once you get moving, expect to sweat (a transpira).

We will do the warm-up before we lift the weights.
Vom face încălzirea înainte să ridicăm greutățile.
If you run on the treadmill, you will sweat quickly.
Dacă alergi pe bandă, vei transpira repede.

Weights and Equipment

When doing strength training, you will likely use free weights. In Romanian, a dumbbell is o ganteră, while a larger barbell is o halteră. Notice that both of these equipment terms are feminine nouns.

Pick up every dumbbell from the floor, please!
Adunați fiecare ganteră de pe podea, vă rog!
Put the other weights on the barbell!
Puneți celelalte greutăți pe halteră!

Exercises and Repetitions

Building a solid routine means knowing your core exercises. Two of the most common bodyweight or heavy-lifting movements are the squat (genuflexiunea) and the push-up (flotarea). You will track your progress by counting each repetition (repetarea).

Before you go down, make sure the squat is correct.
Înainte să cobori, asigură-te că genuflexiunea e corectă.
The boy will try some new push-ups today.
Băiatul va încerca niște flotări noi astăzi.
Each repetition counts for your success.
Fiecare repetare contează pentru succesul tău.

Fitness Goals and Performance

Whether your personal goal is to tone your muscles (a tonifia) or to improve your overall physical endurance (rezistența), you will need to adjust how hard you work. You can manage your workout's difficulty by increasing or decreasing the intensity (intensitatea).

Before we go to the beach, we will tone our body.
Înainte să mergem la plajă, ne vom tonifia corpul.
This workout improves our endurance.
Acest antrenament ne îmbunătățește rezistența.
We will increase the intensity after the second repetition.
Vom crește intensitatea după a doua repetare.
