When making strong guarantees—like in customer service or business agreements—you often need to say that a promise stands whatever the circumstances. English uses "whatever happens" or "whoever calls". Romanian builds these "no matter what" clauses with a word starting with ori-.
Two ways to say it
The most common form puts the verb in the conditional: orice s-ar întâmpla (whatever may happen), oricine ar suna (whoever may call). Just as natural, and a little more direct, is the plain present indicative: orice se întâmplă, oricine sună. This lesson practices the indicative.
| conditional | indicative |
|---|---|
| Orice s-ar întâmpla, vă ajutăm. | Orice se întâmplă, vă ajutăm. |
| Oricine ar fi vinovat, plătim noi. | Oricine este vinovat, plătim noi. |
Do not use să here: orice să se întâmple is not standard Romanian.
Orice: whatever
Orice (whatever) stands on its own as a pronoun ("whatever happens") or before a noun as an adjective ("whatever malfunction"). It is the natural way to refund (a rambursa) or remedy something unconditionally.
| unconditionally | necondiționat |
| Whatever happens, we will refund your money unconditionally. | Orice se întâmplă, o să vă rambursăm banii necondiționat. |
| Whatever malfunction you find, we can remedy it for free. | Orice defecțiune constatați, noi putem să o remediem gratuit. |
Time and place: oricând and oriunde
The same pattern works with oricând (whenever) and oriunde (wherever): you can promise assistance (asistența) whenever and wherever an issue is reported.
| Whenever you report the problem, our assistance helps you. | Oricând semnalați problema, asistența noastră vă ajută. |
| Wherever you are, our assistance can resolve the situation quickly. | Oriunde sunteți, asistența noastră poate să soluționeze rapid situația. |
People: oricine
For people, use oricine (whoever)—useful when you need to resolve (a soluționa) an issue or compensate (a despăgubi) a client, whoever is at fault or whoever filed the report.
| Whoever makes the complaint, we must resolve the case and compensate the client. | Oricine face reclamația, trebuie să soluționăm cazul și să despăgubim clienta. |
| Whoever is guilty, the company will refund you the amount and compensate you. | Oricine este vinovat, compania o să vă ramburseze suma și o să vă despăgubească. |
Clause order
The ori- clause usually opens the sentence, so the promise is unconditional from the first word. Placed at the very end, it adds emphasis.
| Provide us the assistance immediately, whatever happens! | Să ne furnizați asistența imediat, orice se întâmplă! |
