The Absolute Superlative
In Romanian, the absolute superlative (superlativul absolut) intensifies an adjective or adverb. Form it by placing foarte (very) or tare (really/extremely) directly before the word you are emphasizing.
| The carousel is very fun, but it is too slow. | Caruselul este foarte distractiv, dar este prea încet. |
| The new carousel is extremely scary. | Caruselul nou este tare înfricoșător. |
You can mix both in the same sentence for variety:
| This carousel is really fun, but very noisy. | Acest carusel este tare distractiv, dar foarte zgomotos. |
Adjective Agreement
While foarte and tare never change, the adjective following them must still agree with the noun's gender and number. For example, viteza (the speed) is feminine, so its adjectives take feminine forms like spectaculoasă or înfricoșătoare.
| The speed is really high, and the journey is very spectacular. | Viteza este tare mare, iar călătoria este foarte spectaculoasă. |
| My friend thinks that the speed is really scary. | Prietenul meu crede că viteza este tare înfricoșătoare. |
Thrills and Sensations
Apply these exact same rules to describe intense amusement park rides and sensations:
| That curve is very dizzying. | Acea curbă este foarte amețitoare. |
| I am crying because the sensation is extremely intense. | Plâng fiindcă senzația este tare intensă. |
| I get dizzy because the carousel is very fast. | Amețesc deoarece caruselul este foarte rapid. |
