The verb ficar literally means 'to stay', but it is the most common way to say where places, landmarks, or buildings are located. It translates perfectly as 'is located'. While you could use está, fica sounds much more natural here.

Why is it paragem de autocarro and not just autocarro paragem?

In English, we can put two nouns right next to each other to make a new concept (bus + stop). In Portuguese, you cannot do this. You have to use de (of) to connect them, literally saying 'stop of bus'.

How do I know if paragem is feminine or masculine?

Notice the a at the start of the sentence? That tells us it is feminine. As a very handy trick for beginners: almost all Portuguese words ending in -agem are feminine!

What is the difference between ali and other words for 'there'?

Ali means 'there' or 'over there' for something at a medium distance, usually within your line of sight. If the stop was right next to the person you are talking to, you would use aí. If it was very far away or out of sight, you would use lá.
