The Verb Pôr (To Put)
The verb pôr (to put) is highly irregular. While most verbs end in -ar, -er, or -ir, pôr belongs to its own group. Here is its present indicative conjugation:

Notice that the eu form introduces an nh sound, while the tu form uses a nasal tilde (~).

The singular form põe and the plural form põem also have a strong nasal sound.
| The mother puts the plant on the balcony. | A mãe põe a planta na varanda. |

Unlike the other conjugations, the nós form (pomos) drops the nasal sound entirely. Note that in Portuguese, pôr is also used for "putting on" clothing, such as gloves.

Regular Gardening Verbs
While pôr is irregular, most other gardening actions use standard -ar verbs, such as plantar (to plant) and regar (to water).
