Simultaneous Actions with "Enquanto"

To describe two actions happening at the same time, use the conjunction enquanto (while).

You can also use enquanto to state rules or conditions that apply during a specific time.

Continuous Actions

To emphasize that an action is in progress right now, use the present continuous (estar a + infinitive). You will often see this paired with enquanto to describe synchronized ongoing teamwork.

We are building a hospital while you are building a park.
Nós estamos a construir um hospital enquanto vocês estão a construir um parque.

You can even mix the simple present with the continuous form, depending on the nature of each action.

While you wait, they are preparing the cement.
Enquanto tu esperas, eles estão a preparar o cimento.
