Reading the news
B1 is where you start reading real Portuguese news, and news Portuguese has a vocabulary of its own:

| The police are looking for the murderer. | A polícia procura o assassino. |
A esquadra is where the EP police work — go there para participar um roubo (to report a theft). Preso doubles as everyday "stuck": preso no trânsito.
People in the report
o adolescente completes the age set you know (criança, jovem, adulto, idoso); a miúda is the colloquial girl/kid, the feminine of o miúdo. humano — human (o corpo humano, um erro humano); negro — dark, grim, in set phrases like o mercado negro (the black market); o sexo — sex, the box on every form.
