Some of the most common verbs are irregular in the Pretérito Imperfeito (Imperfect). We often use ser (to be), ter (to have), vir (to come), and pôr (to put) to describe how things used to be or compare the past to the present.

Notice that ter, vir, and pôr share a consistent -nha sound pattern, and that the nós forms always take an acute accent.
