Questions & Answers about Myślisz, że ten bilet kosztuje trzysta złotych?
How do you form trzysta (300), and why is it different from 200?
Trzysta is literally "three hundreds", made from trzy (three) and sta (hundreds). While 200 has its own special ending (dwieście), 300 and 400 both use the -sta ending (trzysta, czterysta). When you get to 500 and above, the ending changes again to -set.
Why is the currency written as złotych instead of złote here?
In Polish, quantities of 5 and above (including 300) force the following noun into the Genitive plural case. While you would say trzy złote (3 zlotys) because 2, 3, and 4 take the normal plural, for 300 you must say trzysta złotych (literally: 300 of zlotys).
Why doesn't the sentence start with ty (you)?
Polish verbs change their endings based on who is doing the action. The -sz ending on Myślisz already tells us it means "you think". Adding ty isn't necessary in Polish unless you really want to emphasize the word "you".
