Questions & Answers about Czy to jest twój szesnasty komputer?
How do we get szesnasty from the number six (sześć)?
Just like in English, Polish builds on the base number. The normal number 16 is szesnaście. To make it an ordinal (16th), we drop the -cie and add the adjective ending -ty. Notice that the soft ć from sześć (6) was dropped to make it easier to pronounce!
Why does the sentence use szesnasty and twój instead of forms like szesnasta or twoja?
Both the possessive word (twój) and the ordinal number (szesnasty) must match the gender of the noun they describe. Because komputer is a masculine noun, they both take their masculine, nominative forms. If you were talking about a feminine noun like a mouse (mysz), it would be twoja szesnasta mysz.
Do all ordinal numbers from 13th to 19th end in -nasty?
Yes! For masculine nouns, the 13th to 19th ordinal numbers all end in -nasty (like trzynasty, czternasty, piętnasty). For feminine nouns they end in -nasta, and for neuter nouns they end in -naste. They behave exactly like regular adjectives.
Can I change the word order to szesnasty twój komputer?
