Why is the word for bed written as łóżkiem instead of its dictionary form łóżko?
In Polish, the preposition pod (under) forces the noun that follows it to change its ending when describing where something is located. This is called the Instrumental case. For neuter nouns ending in -ko like łóżko, you drop the -o and add -iem, making it łóżkiem.
