Questions & Answers about Interesuję się muzyką.
Why is there a się in this sentence?
In Polish, the verb interesować się translates to "to be interested in," but it literally acts like "to interest oneself." The word się is a reflexive pronoun (like "myself"). Without it, interesować just means to interest someone else.
Why is it muzyką instead of muzyka?
The verb interesować się always requires the noun that follows it to take the Instrumental case. For feminine nouns ending in -a, like muzyka, the Instrumental ending is -ą. That is why muzyka changes to muzyką.
Where is the word for "I" (ja)?
In Polish, you usually drop subject pronouns like ja (I) because the verb's ending already tells you who is doing the action. The -ę at the end of interesuję clearly means "I." Adding ja here would only be used for strong emphasis.
What is the dictionary form (infinitive) of interesuję?
The base form is interesować się. In Polish, verbs that end in -ować have a special pattern: the -ować changes to -uję for the "I" form. You will see this pattern a lot in verbs borrowed from other languages.
