Questions & Answers about Czy ta impreza była nudna?
Why does the sentence start with czy if the English translation just starts with "Was"?
In Polish, czy is a special word used to start a yes/no question. While English turns a statement into a question by changing the word order (The party was... -> Was the party...?), Polish keeps the normal word order and simply puts czy at the very beginning.
Why do we use była instead of był for "was"?
In the past tense, the Polish verb "to be" changes depending on the gender of the subject. Because impreza (party) is a feminine noun, you must use the feminine past tense form, była. If the subject were a masculine noun, you would use był, and for neuter nouns you would use było.
Why are we using ta instead of ten?
Ta is the feminine form of "this", used here because it has to match the feminine noun impreza. If you were talking about a masculine noun, you would say ten.
I noticed that ta, impreza, była, and nudna all end in the letter "a". Is that normal?
