Question 1

Why do we use the preposition z followed by the Genitive case here instead of a direct object?

Accepted Answer

The verb korzystać means to use or to benefit from. In Polish, it must always be followed by the preposition z plus the Genitive case. You can think of it as benefiting from something. Here, the masculine noun moduł and its adjective główny change into the Genitive form głównego modułu.

Question 2

Could I use the verb używamy instead of korzystamy z in this sentence?

Accepted Answer

You could, but korzystamy z sounds much more natural here. While both mean to use, używać is typically for handling physical tools or objects like a hammer or a pen. Korzystać z implies taking advantage of or benefiting from a system, service, or feature, which perfectly fits interacting with a software or structural module.

Question 3

Why is tydzień in the Locative case (w tygodniu) for this time expression?

Accepted Answer

When expressing frequency for periods of a week, month, or year, Polish uses the preposition w followed by the Locative case, such as w tygodniu, w miesiącu, and w roku. As a quick refresher, if you were saying once a day, you would switch to na plus the Accusative case: raz na dzień.

Question 4

Why does the inanimate masculine noun moduł take the -u ending in the Genitive rather than -a?

Accepted Answer

For masculine inanimate nouns in the Genitive singular, deciding between the -a and -u endings is notoriously tricky. However, there are patterns you can rely on: loanwords, technological terms, and abstract concepts almost always take the -u ending. Since moduł is a technical loanword, it predictably becomes modułu.
