Questions & Answers about Przy okazji zapytam o cenę.
What does przy okazji literally mean, and how does it translate to "by the way"?
Literally, it means "at the opportunity" or "on the occasion." The noun okazja means opportunity, occasion, or bargain, and it is in the locative case here after the preposition przy. In conversational Polish, przy okazji is the most common way to say "by the way" or "while I am at it."
Why use zapytam instead of będę pytać for "I will ask"?
Zapytam is the future tense form of the perfective verb zapytać. You use the perfective aspect here because asking about the price is a single, completed action. Będę pytać uses the imperfective aspect and would mean "I will be asking" or "I will repeatedly ask."
Why is there no Polish word for "I" before zapytam?
Subject pronouns like ja (I) are usually dropped in Polish because the verb ending already tells you who is doing the action. The -am ending in zapytam clearly indicates the first person singular. Adding ja here would sound slightly unnatural unless you wanted to strongly emphasize that you are the one asking.
Why is cena in the accusative case (cenę) instead of the locative?
