Connecting Ideas: Więc and Zatem
To express a logical result or consequence, use the connectors więc (so) and zatem (therefore, thus). They link a cause to an effect or decision.
Always place a comma before więc or zatem when connecting two clauses.
| This device is very old, so we will design a new one. | To urządzenie jest bardzo stare, więc zaprojektujemy nowe. |
| The engine is broken, therefore we must fix it. | Silnik jest zepsuty, zatem musimy go naprawić. |
Więc is everyday and conversational ("so"), while zatem is slightly more formal or conclusive ("therefore").

These connectors are highly useful when describing engineering problems and proposing solutions. State the issue, add a comma and your connector, then state the result.

When a solution works well, point to the positive consequence using dzięki temu (thanks to this / because of this).
