Setting Strict Conditions with "O ile"
When negotiating terms or setting boundaries, use the conjunction o ile (provided that, as long as) to express a restrictive condition.
You can place o ile in the middle of a sentence to attach a condition to a main action. Always place a comma before it.
| We will agree to it, provided that you have no reservations. | Zgodzimy się na to, o ile nie masz zastrzeżeń. |
| I guarantee this profit, provided that you pay the advance. | Gwarantuję ten zysk, o ile wpłacisz zaliczkę. |
Starting with the Condition
Just like in English, you can state your condition first. When starting a sentence with o ile, place a comma at the end of the conditional clause.
| Provided that we agree on the price, I will pay the advance as soon as possible. | O ile uzgodnimy cenę, wpłacę zaliczkę jak najszybciej. |
| Provided that you keep the agreement, we will provide you with the materials. | O ile dotrzymasz umowy, zapewnimy wam materiały. |
Stating Outcomes and Concessions
Negotiating often involves laying out logical consequences or acknowledging difficulties. Use zatem (therefore, so) to state a firm conclusion.
| The project is profitable, therefore our goals are realistic. | Projekt jest zyskowny, zatem nasze cele są realne. |
To make a concession or acknowledge a limitation, use jakkolwiek (although, however).
| Although it is hard to assure this, we guarantee fast delivery. | Jakkolwiek trudno to zapewnić, gwarantujemy szybką dostawę. |
