To say that something happens despite a difficulty or an unexpected result, use chociaż (although) or mimo że (even though). These conjunctions are interchangeable in everyday Polish.
Just like in English, they connect two clauses. The conjunction can go at the beginning or in the middle of the sentence. You must always use a comma to separate the two clauses in Polish, regardless of word order.
Using chociaż (although)
| Although this idea is strange, I like it. | Chociaż ten pomysł jest dziwny, podoba mi się. |
| We do not give up, although we have new difficulties. | Nie poddajemy się, chociaż mamy nowe trudności. |
Using mimo że (even though)
Mimo że functions exactly like chociaż. It is always written as two separate words. When it connects clauses in the middle of a sentence, the comma goes directly before mimo.

| She never gives up, even though she is tired. | Ona nigdy się nie poddaje, mimo że jest zmęczona. |
Overcoming difficulties
These conjunctions naturally pair with words about pushing through difficulties (trudności), trying hard (starać się), or not giving up (poddawać się).
