Lesson 248: Using より to make comparisons

The particle より means than, and can be used to make comparisons. By using the phrase AはBよりXです, we can say A is more X than B. For example:

The bus is cheaper than the train. バスはでんしゃよりやすいです。
basu ha densya yori yasui desu.
The book was more interesting than the film. ほんえいよりおもしろかったです。
hon ha eiga yori omosirokatta desu.
Today is busier than yesterday. きょきのよりいそがしいです。
kyou ha kinou yori isogasii desu.

To make a comparison with より then, we need to use this format:

Noun 1 is more .... than noun 2. Noun 1 + は + noun 2 + より + adjective [+です・だ]
