Lesson 97: Katakana 4
In this lesson, you will learn to recognize the katakana characters listed in the table below.
Note the digraph ティ, which consists of テ and a small ィ. This digraph sounds like ty in the word quality, which is クオリティ in Japanese.
This digraph only exists in katakana, because hiragana is only used to represent Japanese words, and Japanese normally does not use the ティ sound. In katakana, there are several more digraphs which are used to approximate sounds from other languages. You will learn these in a later lesson.
