Questions & Answers about Visiteremo la Terra domani.
Why is it spelled visiteremo instead of visitaremo?
For regular verbs ending in -are, the a changes to an e in the future tense. So, the base of visitare (to visit) changes from visitar- to visiter-. Then you add the "we" ending -emo to get visiteremo.
How do we know who is visiting if there's no word for "we"?
In Italian, the subject pronoun (like noi for "we") is usually dropped because the verb ending already tells you who is doing the action. The future tense ending -emo in visiteremo specifically means "we will [verb]."
Why do we need the article la before Terra?
While in English we often just say "Earth," Italian requires definite articles (the words for "the") before the names of planets, just like it does for continents and countries. Because Terra is a feminine noun, it takes la.
Does Terra always mean the planet "Earth"?
Not always! When it is capitalized as Terra, it refers to the planet Earth. However, if you see it in lowercase as terra, it means "ground," "dirt," or "land."
