Why do we use gli for 'the' instead of i?
Gli is the masculine plural article for 'the' used before nouns that start with a vowel, like aeroporti. It is also used before special sounds like 'z' or 's' plus a consonant. If the word started with a normal consonant, we would just use i.
Is aeroporti a masculine or feminine word?
It is masculine! The singular form is l'aeroporto. When making it plural, the -o ending changes to -i (aeroporti), and the article changes from l' to gli.
Why is anche at the beginning of the sentence?
In Italian, anche (meaning 'also' or 'too') goes directly before the word or phrase it emphasizes. Here we are emphasizing 'the airports', so it is placed right in front of gli aeroporti. English usually puts 'too' at the very end of the sentence.
Why does moderni end with an -i?
