Italian has several high-frequency verbs that attach the partitive pronoun *ne* (of it / about it) right onto their infinitive forms. These "pronominal verbs" are essential for sounding natural when talking about realizing, regretting, or taking advantage of situations.

### Verbs with just "ne"

Some verbs generally require the preposition *di* (of / about) to introduce their object. When you drop the specific object and simply want to say "of it" or "about it," you use the pronoun *ne*. Place *ne* immediately before the conjugated verb. 

Two extremely common examples are **approfittarne** (to take advantage of it) and **valerne la pena** (to be worth it).

### Reflexive verbs with "ne" (-sene)

When a reflexive verb needs to express "of it", its standard reflexive pronoun (*mi*, *ti*, *si*, etc.) combines with *ne*. In this combination, the *i* in the reflexive pronoun changes to *e*, creating the clusters *me ne*, *te ne*, *se ne*, *ce ne*, *ve ne*, and *se ne*. 

Two crucial verbs in this category are **accorgersene** (to notice or realize it) and **pentirsene** (to regret it). You conjugate the verb normally, placing the two-part pronoun cluster directly before it.

### The Passato Prossimo

When you use these verbs in compound tenses like the *passato prossimo*, you have to pay attention to your choice of auxiliary verb and how the past participle ends.

Because **accorgersene** and **pentirsene** are reflexive, they always take the auxiliary verb *essere*. As a result, the past participle must agree with the subject in gender and number.

The phrase **valerne la pena** also takes *essere*. The past participle generally agrees with the feminine singular noun *la pena*, making it *ne è valsa*.

On the other hand, **approfittarne** is a standard (non-reflexive) verb that takes the auxiliary *avere*. As expected with *avere*, its past participle simply ends in *-o*.
