Polite Requests with Vorrei
When booking a service or asking for amenities, using the present tense voglio (I want) can sound too direct. To make a polite request, Italian uses vorrei (I would like), the first-person present conditional form of the verb volere (to want).
You can use vorrei directly before a noun to politely ask for an item or service. Adding per favore (please) makes it even more polite.
| I would like a body treatment. | Vorrei un trattamento per il corpo. |
| I would like a towel and a bathrobe, please. | Vorrei un asciugamano e un accappatoio, per favore. |
You can also pair vorrei with an infinitive verb to express an action you would like to take, such as booking a treatment or using a facility.
| I would like to book a relaxing massage, please. | Vorrei prenotare un massaggio rilassante, per favore. |
| I would like to use the sauna. | Vorrei usare la sauna. |
| I would like to book the sauna and a relaxing massage. | Vorrei prenotare la sauna e un massaggio rilassante. |
Asking What is Included
While at the spa, you might need to ask if certain services or amenities are part of your package. Use the adjective incluso (included). Because it functions as an adjective, its ending must agree in gender and number with the noun it describes.
| Is the herbal tea included? | La tisana è inclusa? |
| Are the massages included in the price? | I massaggi sono inclusi nel prezzo? |
